Conquer Clutter Campaign—Part 2

(Originally published 29 January 2011)

When I saw my therapist yesterday, I spent almost the entire time talking about Spark People! She was delighted by my animation and excitement, my progress, and how this is meeting my need to lessen isolation and connect more with others. I was laughing about being involved with Spark Teams for all of 3 weeks, and already contemplating starting my own (as mentioned in my first CCC blog entry).

I'm nervous about it, because I don't want to get overwhelmed. But I have a sense that, just as working with teams has increased my motivation and consistency, taking on some leadership will ramp up my commitment. It will also engage my creative talents and my desire to serve.

Still I don't want to take on too much. Nor do I want the administrative aspects of being a team leader to interfere with working my program. Of course I have no idea how many people will even join! And that's OK, because not everyone is at the babystep level.

I also don't want to be seen as an expert. I don't have all the answers, and I'm not trying to "fix" anybody. I have experience; I've made mistakes and had some successes. I'm good at conceptualizing, communicating, and breaking complicated processes down into smaller parts. I'm ready to give and receive support.

I've read the FAQs and tips on starting new teams. I've submitted questions on details I didn't find addressed. I've solicited mentors. I've chosen an alliterative name, found an image to use, and I've been playing with a brief description that will meet the 200 character limit. I've thought about team challenges and sticky topics. Can you tell I've already decided?

I hope to launch between the end of January and Valentines. Very possibly on Imbolc/Candlemas/Brigid's Day/Groundhog Day—an appropriately symbolic beginning for this pagan. I'll blog an announcement, as well as creating a message on some of my teams to let people know. It will be interesting to see how many others decide to come and play and take those babysteps together.

You may notice I'm making babystep a single word. That is because I don't plan for us to be known as the BS Brigade! We can be the BBs, and teammates can be your 3Bs—Babystep Brigade Buddies. Stay tuned. Blessed Be, Amanda
